Can You Sanitize Your Toothbrush?

Posted on 7/30/2017 by Jolie
It is important to make sure your toothbrush is clean.
Have you ever sanitized your toothbrush? If not, then you should. You need to replace your toothbrush every three months anyway, as they become less effective and the germs can build up over that time. However, if you sanitize your toothbrush during that time, you can make sure that the germs are not the reason for needing a new brush. There are a few ways of doing it that each take very little time. Here are the quickest and most effective ways of sanitizing your toothbrush.

How You Can Sanitize Your Toothbrush

The first option for sanitizing your toothbrush is putting the brush into your dishwasher. This is great if you have a standard toothbrush. If yours is electric or battery powered, make sure you only put the brush head into the dishwasher. Run it through a cycle once per week and you will be good to go.

Another option is to put your toothbrush in boiling water for 3-5 minutes. Again, only the brush head if your is powered. After just a few minutes, any germs on the brush will be dead and you will be good to go. Do this once per week, more if you are sick or often get sick.

Finally, you can douse your toothbrush in anti-bacterial mouthwash after each brushing. If you put the head of your toothbrush into a jar (or cup) of fresh mouthwash, it kills the bacteria so each time you brush, it's sanitary.

If you want more ideas on how to keep your toothbrush clean, talk with your dentist. They know how to keep your toothbrush, and the rest of your mouth, healthy. Ask them the next time you are in their office for a cleaning or procedure. They will give you their ideas and you can implement those options, too. Patient Testimonials.

Our patients come back to us because we truly care about the care you receieve. Here are some of the things our amazing patients have to say about us:
The staff are super friendly and made me feel really comfortable. I had to get implants for two "baby" teeth i still had left b/c i never grew permanent teeth in their place. I had to be sedated for the operation and expected to be out of commission for a couples days and in a lot of pain the following week. However, that evening I felt surprisingly good with minimal pain.

Dr. Myers is the best. I have been a patient of his for about 5 years and every time I come he makes me feel super relaxed and at ease. I have had everything from a simple cleaning to crowns and everything is virtually painless afterwards. I would recommend him to any person who is seeking a great dentist and staff.
