What Other Things Could Be Causing Your Toothache?

Toothaches will make anyone feel miserable, driving you to find the root of the problem. Fortunately, there are some rather common reasons behind them today.
Misaligned teeth tend to press against your other teeth and push them out of alignment too. Sometimes orthodontic treatment for these things makes your teeth feel worse instead of better, especially right after you get an adjustment. This pain should never persist though.
Impacted Wisdom Teeth
When your wisdom teeth fail to break through your gum line they may start pushing against your other teeth.
Grinding your teeth is a very common source of tooth, jaw, neck, and muscle pain. Since grinding usually happens during sleep or stress, you may not even realize you're doing it.
Damaged Filling or Sealants
Dental fillings are useful in protecting vulnerable parts of your teeth – pits, grooves, and fractures included. However, these protectants can also become damaged and when they do so, they expose the sensitive parts of your teeth to things like extreme temperatures, food particles, and bacteria that can irritate your teeth, causing the toothache.
Fixing Your Toothache
Paying attention to the way you brush and floss your teeth is one thing you can do to help take care of your own toothache. Don't press too hard or use a medium- or hard-bristled toothbrush.
Doing so can cause your gums to become irritated, which can cause a toothache. Of course, proper oral healthcare also includes seeing us before your tooth becomes a problem. Remember, the key here is that an ounce of prevention is better than anything here.
Since you probably won't know what's causing your toothache, you're leaving that up to us to determine for you. However, we won't be able to tell which of these issues is your problem before we take some x-rays and examine your mouth. Call us today so we can schedule this appointment and determine what you need from there.
Our patients come back to us because we truly care about the care you receieve. Here are some of the things our amazing patients have to say about us:
Dr. Courtney and her staff are super friendly and made me feel really comfortable. I had to get implants for two "baby" teeth i still had left b/c i never grew permanent teeth in their place. I had to be sedated for the operation and expected to be out of commission for a couples days and in a lot of pain the following week. However, that evening I felt surprisingly good with minimal pain.
Dr. Myers is the best. I have been a patient of his for about 5 years and every time I come he makes me feel super relaxed and at ease. I have had everything from a simple cleaning to crowns and everything is virtually painless afterwards. I would recommend him to any person who is seeking a great dentist and staff.
